We’d like to recognize these influential women who have served as Chair of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce:
• 2015: Bobbi Magdaleno –
• 2013: Dawn Johnson – Arizona State Credit Union
• 2008: June Nelson – First In First Out
• 1990 & 1991: Darlene Toops – Pueblo Publishers
At the 68th Annual State of the City Address and Dinner, Maria passed the gavel on to another distinguished woman, Dr. Lily DeBlieux, Superindent of Pendergast Elementary School District. We asked Dr. DeBlieux to share her passion for serving the community:
“Volunteerism is the backbone of our country and a way to enrich your life and that of others. As an example of this, I have always admired Marian Wright Edelman, Chair of the Children’s Defense Fund, and live by her words, ‘Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life, and not something you do in your spare time.’
As the incoming Chair of the Glendale Chamber board, I stand on the shoulders of the great women leaders who have shared their passion and talent to improve the Glendale community through their service and support. I am grateful to them for their efforts and ready to take the helm to help make the three core Chamber principles of Business Connection, Community Impact and Economic Prosperity a reality.
In my role as Superintendent of the Pendergast School District serving 10,000 students on 12 campuses in the cities of Avondale, Glendale and Phoenix, connections and partnerships are critical to our success. We are a strong economic engine that creates jobs and has purchasing power to help communities and individuals thrive. We look to the future for our students to be consumers, employers and employees and hope they will see that these connections lead to a stronger and healthier community.
When I speak to people about the importance of community involvement, I stress a mutually beneficial relationship where both the organization and the individuals share goals and passion to improve their businesses and quality of life. In the Pendergast District, the friendships and partnerships I have made are priceless in terms of connections, impact and prosperity, cornerstones of the Glendale Chamber’s opportunities.
Please join me in embracing not only the words but investing in the actions shared by Dr. Edelman. Let us seize the opportunity to make a difference in our local community. We can steer the course of the future with our time, efforts and talents and can look with pride on our impact and positive influence.”
We are honored to have such amazing women to share in the success of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce.
