For some people, everything is coming up roses. In Glendale, Cooki Peverini is one of those people, at least from a business perspective. That’s because she is living her dream as the President/CEO and head designer of her own family-run business, Peverini Custom Floral Design.

Mayor Jerry P. Weiers recognized Peverini’s local business as the Mayor’s Business of the Week, presenting the company with a certificate of appreciation for not only contributing to Glendale’s economic well-being, but beautifying it as well.

“Cooki is someone who has really found a way to turn her passion for design and her special knack for helping people into a small business that has blossomed and I’m very happy for her and her family,” Weiers said. “I’ve witnessed her dedication to Glendale, serving on boards and helping form new programs, and I’m impressed how she has integrated community service into the culture of her business.”

Peverini’s bouquet of experience in the floral industry dates back to 1971, when she began working in flower shops in Southern California. She honed her craft while working for a number of high-end floral designers, owned her own business called “Flowers by Cooki,” and even worked as a float decorator for the Tournament of Roses parade.

Peverini arrived in Glendale in 1994 and has worked for the City of Glendale, Blooming Bouquets in downtown Glendale, and Wolz Florist. She started Peverini Custom Floral Design two years ago and focuses on providing custom design service primarily for special events.
From weddings, to corporate and holiday parties, to Quinceañera celebrations, Peverini has established her business as a creative and reliable partner in event planning.

While those functions are the lifeblood of her business, she remains active in the Glendale community, serving on nonprofit boards of directors and participating in local theater as an onstage actor. Peverini started the Glendale Jr. Players, a children’s theatre group for ages 5 to 12 that ran from 1998 to 2001.

Giving back to the community continues to be a driving force for Peverini, who teaches flower workshops for Glendale Parks and Recreation at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center on a regular basis. The classes feature a variety of topics on floral arrangements, including training for brides, who want to take wedding floral design into their own hands.

“I love making people happy and the look on everybody’s face when they see their flowers,” said Peverini. “After being in corporate America for 40 years, I decided to do the floral design full time because it seemed like I was always doing it on the side. It’s very satisfying to me to share the art of design with others.”

The Mayor’s Business of the Week is a program initiated by Weiers in 2014 to recognize the entrepreneurial spirit in Glendale. The purpose of the program is to heighten awareness of local companies by showcasing the many aspects of doing business in Glendale and the positive impact on our city, citizens and local economy.

Businesses that are named Business of the Week are also featured through Weiers’ social media channels and the Glendale Chamber of Commerce.
