Mayor Jerry P. Weiers Joins Glendale Chamber of Commerce to Host
Big Dog Run Motorcycle Rally Benefiting ASU Veterans Education Fund
Glendale, AZ (March 16, 2016) – Glendale Mayor Jerry P. Weiers, in partnership with the Glendale Chamber of Commerce Military & Veterans Affairs Committee, will soon lead a group of hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts on the Mayors’ Big Dog Run on Saturday, March 26, 2016. The ride begins at Thunderbird School of Global Management, 1 Global Place, Glendale, with registration opening at 7:30 a.m. and “kickstands up” at 9:00 a.m.
The cost of the ride is $25 per person, payable the day of the event at registration, and proceeds benefit the ASU Veterans Education Fund, which provides scholarships for veterans.
“I have always supported our veterans, and I have always ridden a motorcycle, so I’m excited to lead this group of wonderful people in a fun event that supports opportunities for our veterans to further their education,” Mayor Weiers said.
The Military & Veterans Affairs Committee of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce provides recognition and assistance to our local military community, which is comprised of active duty personnel, reserve personnel, veterans and their respective spouses and families; helps members of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce conduct more business with Luke Air Force Base; and encourages businesses to hire veterans.
A similar ride was held in 2014 and attracted more than 300 motorcycle riders. This year’s ride will feature excursions through Luke Air Force Base and the University of Phoenix Stadium. It concludes at the Desert Rose Pizza & Gastropub in Historic Downtown Glendale. Lunch at the Desert Rose is included in the fee, and festivities include an exposition of military vehicles and a live band that has donated their time, “Demolition: A Tribute to the Wrecking Crew.”
The event is a “poker-style” run (not escorted), and a suggested route will be provided upon registration with planned staging points for riders. Helmets are required for any motorcyclist joining the ride through Luke AFB, and no firearms are permitted on Luke AFB. The ride is open to the public and all participants must be age 16 or older.
Supporters and sponsors of the event include: Glendale Chamber of Commerce: Military & Veterans Affairs Committee, Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona State University, Luke Air Force Base 56th Fighter Wing, University of Phoenix Stadium, Desert Rose Pizza & Gastropub, Arrowhead Harley – Davidson, Cyclerides.com, and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
