In just his second year as president of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, Robert Heidt has taken his skills and abilities above and beyond what has quickly become the city’s premier business organization. He has been actively sought for leadership roles and currently serves in chamber and executive organizations throughout the country at literally every level of the industry.

On the local front, Heidt has been instrumental in revitalizing the Glendale chamber by providing purpose and value to local business members, effectively influencing public policy and building an active membership of nearly 900.

“The growing success of the Glendale Chamber starts with Robert,” said Bobbi Magdaleno, Arizona State University West Campus and 2015 Glendale Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board. “If you know Robert, you see and feel his energy, enthusiasm and dedication.
“His effective leadership is demonstrated by achievements of unbelievable targets including membership, participation, new member opportunities and local, regional and national recognition. Our business members are reaping the rewards of the vision and dedication of Robert Heidt and now regional and national organizations are taking notice and we are delighted to see that he will make an even larger impact in the business community.”
In addition to his executive position with the Glendale chamber, Heidt serves as chairman of the West Valley Chamber Alliance. Members include the Glendale, Peoria, Southwest Valley, Surprise Regional, Buckeye and Wickenburg chambers of commerce.

Going statewide, Heidt was recently elected to the board of directors for the Arizona Chamber Executives. The organization is comprised of more than 60 chambers and is instrumental in assisting chamber executives to become informed, effective leaders within their communities. His three-year term as one of only seven board members will begin with a Dec. 7 meeting in Flagstaff.

Expanding his reach regionally, Heidt has been asked to serve on the Western Association of Chamber Executives. W.A.C.E. is the premier organization for education and professional development for chamber executives. The organization represents 850 chamber professionals serving in 17 western states and Canada. As a previous graduate of the association’s five-year executive academy, Heidt will officially begin his term at a February conference in San Francisco.

Taking his talents nationally, Heidt has served as a board member of the membership council for the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives since his July 2015 appointment. For more than a century, A.C.C.E. has provided practical information, professional development, management techniques and best practices to develop and support chamber professionals to lead businesses and their communities.

The organization’s President and CEO Michael Fleming asked Heidt to join the board specifically to represent the western region of this national organization. Heidt is one of eight board members representing more than 7,000 professionals from 1,200 chambers across the country, Canada and a dozen foreign countries.

Though his board appointments may be relatively recent, Heidt is no stranger to the industry or its professional organizations.

He has been a regular speaker and presenter for over a decade and has logged more than 13 years in chamber management with prior positions in Cape Ann, Mass.; Austin, Texas and Las Vegas, Nev.

Heidt has continued to build on his chamber career in Glendale since he was selected as president in October 2013.

“It’s really amazing to be able to give back, especially to those who have given me so much,” Heidt said. “Engagement and participation in these organizations gives me the perfect opportunity to elevate the success and visibility of both our chamber and city at every level throughout the country.”

“Each of these groups provide a wealth of information and serve as an endless resource in chamber management and organization,” Heidt said. “With the education, experience and expertise available within each of these associations, you don’t have to recreate the wheel for each new challenge and can offer your experience as a possible solution for others to follow.”
Magdaleno summed up her support by saying, “It is because of Robert’s focus on the mission and his thoughtful attitude that the chamber has been able to see such quality results, as well as the addition of more than 200 new members year over year.”
