Couple Celebrates 54th Anniversary

Fred and Joan Beyer will celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary Sept. 2. They were married Sept. 2, 1961 in Plainville, Ct. Both attended Plainville High School. They started dated in April 1958, when Fred was a senior and Joan was a freshman.

They have one son, Frederick G. Beyer II (wife, Tasha), and two grandchildren, Frederick G. Beyer III and Benjamin.

Mr. Beyer was transferred from Iceland to Luke Air Force Base in October 1963, arriving in Glendale Oct. 8. The couple fell in love with Glendale and stayed after Fred was discharged rather than go back to Connecticut.

Both have been involved in Glendale activities. Joan was in the Junior Women’s Club, PALS and Glendale Art Commission. Fred served on the Glendale Board of Adjustments, Planning Commission and the Glen Lake Management Committee selection committee. He was also a 42-year member of Glendale Chamber of Commerce.

Fred served five years as a haring officer for Maricopa County court system. He had a certified public accounting office in Glendale for 25 years. While a CPA, he served 12 years on the Arizona Ethics Committee (two years as chair), and three years as chair for the AICPA regional trial board. He also was a two-year member of the APA trial board (one of 12 members).
